Public library is an important and effective social repositories and it is accessible by the
general public without discrimination on sex, caste, class, language, status or
educational attainment. It caters the need of all the public and acts as a community
center and centre for recreation and culture. The paper deals with the case study on a
public library located at Bhandara city. The library is 150 years old and celebrated
post-centurial ceremony in the year 2013. The library was established in the year 1863.
The paper also deals with the definition and significance of public library, library
movement in India, Maharashtra and Bhandara. The case study digged out the many
sparkling aspects of the public library of Bhandara such as its organization, collection
holding, automation, library users, library services, innovative practices, land marks of
the library, contribution for the socio- cultural development followed by the
CONCLUSION.
